Lifeview – Discovering What Makes People Tick

Program Description A Lifeview is a largely unconscious but generally coherent set of ideas about how the world is and how it ought to be. Everyone, regardless of education and experience, has a Lifeview; it is an inescapable part of being human, and it powerfully influences one’s values, attitudes, emotions and behavior. A person’s Lifeview is “caught as much as taught” and is a big part of ‘what makes them tick.’ Some of the common Lifeviews we encounter daily are pragmatism, secularism, relativism and hedonism, usually mixed in varying degrees with one another and all based on simple, easy to grasp ideas.

In order to better understand ourselves and our faith, our neighbors and their faith and the world in general, we need a basic understanding of some of the main Lifeviews that surround and influence us. This course will help you discover where you are being unconsciously influenced by un-biblical assumptions and also help you recognize the assumptions which influence your neighbors. As a result, you will become a more faithful, consistent disciple of Jesus Christ and also a more effective ambassador for him.

The Lifeview program is offered with live teaching in a classroom environment. Please check back to learn when it will be next offered.

Who is This Program For?
The Lifeview program is open to anyone interested in understanding themselves, their neighbors and the rapidly changing world around us. An undergraduate degree and ordinary common sense will be helpful.

Schedule
The program roughly follows an academic calendar (September through June), but begins with an orientation meeting in the preceding June where class members will meet each other and receive reading assignments for June through August. From September to June, participants meet as a group on the 4th Saturday morning of each month from 8:30-12:00 for instruction, followed by an hour of discussion over lunch. (On two of the Saturdays during the program, there will be an afternoon session lasting until 4.00pm.) A private online forum will be available beginning in June for any questions and discussions for the summer reading assignments. Participants also meet monthly as a group in a evening teleconference call.

This class requires a minimum enrollment of twelve students and will not be offered if the minimum is not met.

Cost
There is no registration cost, though participants need to purchase the assigned books. Donations are appreciated to help cover the cost for speakers, refreshments, etc.
