Study Tour Itinerary

Saturday, June 24Arrive at Jury’s Inn hotel in Belfast (participants fly to Belfast and take bus or taxi to hotel).

12:00-3:00 pm  Check-in to Jury’s Inn Hotel: 

You are welcome to register on arrival and if your room is not ready the front desk can store your luggage if you want to explore Belfast.

3:15 pm – Meet in hotel lobby to go have afternoon tea.

3:30-5:30 pm – Afternoon Tea at the Jury’s Inn Hotel. Including initial orientation and talk on the life of C.S. Lewis (C.S. Lewis Institute Staff).

7:00 pm – Dinner


Sunday, June 25:  Belfast

7:00 am – Full Irish Breakfast at hotel

8:00 am – Leave for St. Mark’s Anglican Church (childhood church of Lewis)

8:30 am – Communion Service at St. Mark’s Anglican Church (where Lewis first took Communion as a child and where his grandfather was the Rector)

9:30 am-12:00 pm – Tour of Central Belfast – Queen’s University, C.S. Lewis Reading room, Linen Hall Library, City Hall, Grand Opera House

12:00 pm-1:30 pm – Lunch

1:30 pm-4:30 pm – Tour of East Belfast –  Birthplace, childhood home of Lewis – Little Lea, Wardrobe “Searcher” Sculpture; Campbell College; Belfast City Cemetery – Lewis Family plot

4:30 – Free time and dinner on your own


Monday, June 26: North Coast of Northern Ireland

7:00-8:30 am – Full Irish Breakfast at the hotel & devotions

9:00 am – Leave for the North Coast (Inspiration for Narnia)

9:00 am-12:00 pm – North Coast Tour includes: Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a rede, Dunluce Castle, Castlerock

12:00 pm -1:30 pm –Lunch on your own

1:30 pm-5:00 pm – Continue North Coast Tour

5:00 pm-7:00 pm – Dinner

8:30 pm – Return to Jury’s Inn Hotel


Tuesday, June 27:  Belfast

7:00 am-9:00 am Full Irish Breakfast at the hotel & devotions

9:00 am – Tour of the Titanic Area of Belfast

12:00-1:00 – Lunch on your own

1:00-5:00 – Free time

6:00 pm-8:00 pm – Dinner at The Old Inn Crawfordsburn (where Lewis and Joy Davidman honeymooned)


Wednesday, June 28:  Belfast to Oxford

6:00 amBreakfast at hotel

7:00 am – Leave hotel for airport

9:10 am-10:30 am – Flight from Belfast to London

10:30 am-12:30 pm – Bus from London to Oxford

12:30 pm Check in to Eastgate Hotel

1:00 pm – Lunch at the Mitre Pub Oxford

2:00 pm-4:30 pm – Orientation Walking Tour of Lewis’s Oxford

4:30 pm –  Free evening and dinner on your own 

(Suggestions: Punting on the Thames; Oxford Botanic Garden & Christ Church Meadows; Ashmolean Museum; Lewis’s Bookshops: Blackwell’s, Thornton’s, Waterfield’s)

Thursday, June 29:  Oxford

7:00 am-9:00 am  Full English Breakfast in hotel & devotions

9:30 am Meet in hotel lobby and load bus to The Kilns – the home of C.S. Lewis

10:00 am-12:00 pm Tour of The Kilns

12:00 pm-1:00 pm – Picnic lunch in The Kilns Garden

1:00 pm-3:00 pm – Michael Ward Lecture (The Kilns Library)

3:00 pm-4:00 pm – Walk to Headington Church and Lewis Grave

4:00 pm-4:30 pm – Bus to Mausoleum where Joy Davidman (Lewis’s wife) is buried

4:30 pm-5:00 pm – Return to Hotel

5:00 pm – Free time and dinner on your own


Friday, June 30:  Oxford

7:00 am-9:00 am –  Full English Breakfast at hotel & devotions 

9:00 am-10:00 am Walk to Oxford Center for Christian Apologetics (Stop in Keble College to see famous Pre-Raphaelite painting of “Christ the Light of the World”)

10:00 am-11:00 am – Special Lecture

11:30 am-12:30 pm – Tour of Bodleian Library

12:30 pm-4:15 pm – Lunch on your own & free time

4:15 pm-7:00 pm – Jack’s favorite walk to “The Perch” for a pint on Binsey Lane followed by a stroll along the Isis River past ancient ruins and through cow meadows to “The Trout Inn” for dinner.  (Cab provided for those unable to walk the distance – free time for them until cab to The Trout from hotel).

7:00 pm – Dinner at The Trout Inn. Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm.

9.30pm – Return to hotel after dinner at The Trout Inn via Coach (Bus)


Saturday, July 1: Oxford

7:00 am-9:00 am Full English Breakfast at hotel & devotions

9:30 am-11:00 amLecture by John Lennox at St. Michael at the North Gate Church

11:00 am-1:00 pm – Lunch on your own & free time

1:15 pm – Meet at hotel and walk to Magdalen College

1:30 pm-3:30 pm – Tour of Magdalen College – Addison’s Walk

3:30 pm-5:30 pm – Free time

6:00-9:00 – Final celebration dinner


Sunday, July 2:  Oxford to Wherever

7:00-9:00  Full English Breakfast at hotel
