Belfast/Oxford Study Tour 2019 FAQ

Itinerary*:
*Itinerary is subject to change depending on British holidays, opening and closing of sites, weather and unknown circumstances. This itinerary is planned to make the best use of our time and to provide an enjoyable and enriching tour experience.

 

Saturday, June 22:  Arrive at Jurys Inn Hotel in Belfast (Participants fly to Belfast and take bus or taxi to hotel).

12:00 pm – 3:00 pm –Check-in to Jurys Inn Hotel: 

You are welcome to register on arrival & if your room is not ready the front desk can store your luggage if you want to explore Belfast.

3:15 pm– Meet in hotel lobby for afternoon tea.

3:30 pm 5:30 pm– Afternoon Tea at the Jurys Inn Hotel. Initial orientation (CS Lewis Staff).

7:00 pmDinner  

 

Sunday, June 23:  Belfast

7:00 am – Full Irish Breakfast at Hotel

8:00 am – Leave for St. Mark’s Anglican Church (childhood church of Lewis)

8:30 am – Communion Service at St. Mark’s Anglican Church (where Lewis first took Communion as a child and where his grandfather was the Rector)

9:30 am – 12:00 pm – Tour of East Belfast: Birthplace, childhood home of Lewis – Little Lea, Wardrobe “Searcher” Sculpture; C.S. Lewis Square; Campbell College

12:00 pm – 1:30pm –Lunchand Devotional

1:30 pm  – 4:30 pm   Tour of Central Belfast: Queen’s University, CS Lewis Reading room, Linen Hall Library, City Hall, Grand Opera House

4:30 pm Free Time and Dinner on your own

 

Monday, June 24: North Coast of Northern Ireland

7:00 8:30 am – Full Irish Breakfast at the Hotel & Devotions

9:00 am – Leave for the North Coast (Inspiration for Narnia)

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – North Coast Tour includes:  Carrick-a rede, Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm Lunch on your own

1:30 pm 5:00 pm – Continue North Coast Tour

5:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Dinner

8:30 pm – Return to Jurys Inn Hotel

 

Tuesday, June 25:  Belfast

7:00 am – 9:00 am – Full Irish Breakfast at the Hotel & Devotions

9:00 am – Tour of theTitanic Area of Belfas

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm – Lunch on your own

1:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Free Time

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Dinner at The Old Inn Crawfordsburn(where Lewis and Joy Davidman honeymooned)

 

Wednesday, June 26:  Belfast to Oxford

6:30 am – 6:45 am – Check-out of hotel

6:45 am – Leave hotel for airport

8:45 am – 10:10 am – Flight from Belfast to London

10:30 am – 12:30 pm – Bus from London to Oxford

12:30 pm Check in toEastgate Hotel

1:00 pm – Lunch at the Eastgate Hotel

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Walking Orientation Tour of Oxford

4:30 pm – Free Evening and Dinner on Your Own

(Suggestions: Punting on the Thames; Oxford Botanic Garden & Christ Church Meadows; Ashmolean Museum; Lewis’s Bookshops:  Blackwell’s, Thornton’s, Waterfield’s).

 

Thursday, June 27:  Oxford

7:00 am – 9:00 am – Full English Breakfast in Hotel & Devotions

9:30 am Meet in hotel lobby and load bus toThe Kilns – the home of CS Lewis

10:00 am – 10:20 am – Bus to Mausoleum where Joy Davidman (Lewis’s wife) buried

10:20 am – 10:30 am – Bus to The Kilns – Tour of the Pond

10:30 am 12:30 pm – Tour of The Kilns

12:30 pm  1:30 pm – Picnic Lunch in The Kilns Garden

1:30 pm – 1:45 pm – Walk toHeadington Church

1:45 pm – 3:15 pm – Dr. Michael Ward Lecture on Planet Narnia

3:15 pm – 4:00 pm – Tour of Headington Church and Lewis Grave

4:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Return to Hotel

4:30 pm – Free Time and Dinner on Your Own

 

Friday, June 28:  Oxford

7:00 am – 9:00 am – Full English Breakfast at Hotel & Devotions

9:30 am – 11:30 am – Walking tour including: Bodleian Library and Pitt Rivers Museum

11:30 am – 4:15 pm – Lunch on your own & Free Time

4:30 pm 7:00 pm – Jack’s favorite walk to “The Perch” for a pint on Binsey Lane followed by a stroll along the Isis River past ancient ruins and through cow meadows to “The Trout Inn” for dinner.  (Bus will take us from hotel to trail start.  Bus will take those unable to walk directly to The Trout from hotel where they can enjoy drinks along the river or walk a portion of the trail).

7:00 pm – Dinner at The Trout Inn. Dinner will be served at 7.30pm.

Saturday, June 29: Oxford

7:00 am – 9:00 am – Full English Breakfast at Hotel & Devotions

9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Lunch on your own & Free Time

1:15 pm – Meet at Hotel and walk to Magdalen College

1:30 pm – 3:30 pm – Tour of Magdalen College – Addison’s Walk

3:30 pm – 5:30 pm – Free Time

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Final Celebration Dinner

 

Sunday, June 30:  Oxford to Wherever

7:00 am9:00 am – Full English Breakfast at Hotel
Departure to Airport or Other Choice
