Pastor's Seminar

"The Emerging Church: Understanding & Assessing a Complex Movement"

Many people are talking about the Emerging Church movement these days. This movement is steadily gaining influence among believers in churches everywhere, especially among those under 35. It makes some legitimate critiques of the church, but also offers solutions that theologically orthodox believers have found troubling.

On November 14, 2006, the C.S. Lewis Institute will host a pastor's seminar entitled "The Emerging Church: Understanding & Assessing a Complex Movement".

Our seminar leader is Dr. Scott Smith, author of "Truth and the New Kind of Christian: The Emerging Effects of Postmodernism in the Church." Dr. Smith is associate professor of ethics and Christian Apologetics at Biola University in La Mirada, CA, and a popular lecturer. He is well-acquainted with the Emerging Church movement, is in friendly dialog with its leaders and critiques their views in a kind manner. Dr. Smith is also the author of Virtue, Ethics and Moral Knowledge: Philosophy of Language After MacIntyre and Hauerwas (Ashgate 2003), as well as many scholarly articles and essays.

Please join us for this special opportunity to learn more about this growing movement and bring a guest. The Seminar will be held from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon in the offices of the C.S. Lewis Institute, located at:

8001 Braddock Road,
Suite 300,
Springfield, VA.

  • Remembering Chuck Colson
We at the C.S. Lewis Institute give thanks to God for the life of our dear friend and brother, Chuck Colson. He was a great example of wholehearted commitment to Christ and His kingdom for people around the world. And he was also great encourager of our work over the years, as a friend, advisor, and in other ways. Our prayers are with Patty and the family during this difficult time. And with them we carry on in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection. Until then, we continue, as Chuck did, to run with perseverance the race that is set before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.Read More...

  • Ten Letters
I've been spending more time in prayer lately, feeling convicted that I need to be listening more and being more open to what God is doing and wants to do in my life.  If you’re like me, you go through periods when busyness crowds out discernment, and activities crowd out time to listen.Read More...

"There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them."
