The “Given” With Which the Artist Works
After a brief review of his first three lectures, Woltertorff discusses the distinctions between high art, which he defines as elitist, and low art, and its contribution is to society. Art is an object of action and should be seen as part of our human vocation, not simply as a luxury. As such, we have a responsibility to nature, to our fellow human beings, to ourselves and toward God. In that art is an object of action, all the above are inextricably linked.
