Gerald McDermott
ProfessorGerald McDermott, Professor, is a retired Anglican Chair of Divinity at Samford’s Beeson Divinity School. Prior to that, he served as Jordan–Trexler Professor of Religion at Roanoke College where he taught for 26 years. His career focuses on Jonathan Edwards, a Christian’s understanding other religions, and the meaning of Israel. Gerald has authored many books, including his award-winning coauthoring of Theology of Jonathan Edwards. He grew up in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. He graduated from the University of Chicago (B.A., New Testament and Early Christian Literature). Gerald started and ran a private school, pastored for five years in Iowa, and earned a Ph.D. in religion at the University of Iowa.

Richard Turnbull
PastorRichard Turnbull is the director of the Centre for Enterprise, Markets and Ethics and a trustee of the Christian Institute. Richard also holds a first class honors degree in Theology and Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Durham. He was ordained into the ministry of the Church of England in 1994.  Richard served in the pastoral ministry for over 10 years. He was also for 7 years the Principal of Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He has authored several books, is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a visiting Professor at St Mary’s University, Twickenham.

Randy Newman

Randy Newman (1956-2024) was the Senior Fellow for Apologetics and Evangelism at the C.S. Lewis Institute. He taught at several evangelical seminaries. After serving for over 30 years with Campus Crusade for Christ, he established Connection Points, a ministry to help Christians engage people’s hearts the way Jesus did. He has written seven books, Questioning Evangelism, Corner Conversations, Bringing the Gospel Home, Engaging with Jewish People, Unlikely Converts: Improbable Stories of Faith and What They Teach Us About Evangelism, Mere Evangelism. and his most recent, Questioning Faith: Indirect Journeys of Belief through Terrains of Doubt. Randy has also written numerous articles about evangelism and other ways our lives intertwine with God’s creation. He earned his MDiv and PhD in Intercultural Studies from Trinity International University. Randy went home to be with the Lord in May 2024.

C.S. Lewis Institute, in the legacy of C.S. Lewis, works to develop wholehearted disciples of Jesus Christ who will articulate, defend, share, and live their faith in personal and public life. Founded in 1976 by Dr. James Houston and James R. Hiskey, the Institute provides leading teachers who address important issues of the day from the perspective of Biblical orthodoxy, while also providing discipleship for individuals in small groups.

Doug Greenwold
TeacherDoug Greenwold (1942 - 2019), was a friend of CSLI for many years. He was the Senior Teaching Fellow at Preserving Bible Times, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting biblical truth through contextual restoration of the biblical record. He received his BS, MS, and MBA from the University of Michigan, where he also played basketball. After serving for thirty-two years in the business world, he retired in 1999 to teach the Bible in context. Doug wrote seven books and many articles, including Making Disciples Jesus’ Way: Wisdom We Have Missed. When not speaking and writing, Doug led trips to Israel and was a frequent interview guest on Christian radio.

Alexandria H., Teacher, was raised in Central New York, but has spent the better part of the last decade in and around Annapolis, Maryland. She graduated from St. John’s College in 2010 and had been working for the Admissions Office at her alma mater until a few months ago when she took a two-year commitment to serve as an English teacher overseas. She studied as a CSLI Year One Fellow in Annapolis during the 2013-2014 program. Favorite authors (program and non-program) include Augustine, Bonhoeffer, Keller, Lobachevsky and most Russian novelists of the nineteenth century. Alexandria is now serving Jesus in Southeast Asia.

Thomas A. Tarrants

Author, President Emeritus, CSLI

Thomas A. Tarrants is President Emeritus of the C.S. Lewis Institute. After serving twelve years as president and nine years as vice President, he retired from his position as Vice President for Ministry and Director, Washington Area Fellows Program, with CSLI in June 2019. He holds a Master's of Divinity Degree, as well as a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Christian Spirituality. Tom is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Church Alliance and a member of the Evangelical Theological Society. He spends his time writing, mentoring, consulting and traveling. His life story is told in Consumed by Hate, Redeemed by Love, published by Thomas Nelson Publishers.

Fred J. Clark, Attorney, Fred J. Clark is the Chief Counsel at U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. He formerly served as Director of Global Partnerships at McLean Bible church, as Counsel to Cornerstone Government Affairs while he navigated the transition “from success to significance” in his work and ministry. Clark is a native Californian with a B.S. in Agriculture Business Management from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1983, earned a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, and served as a staff member in the House of Representatives for eleven years. Since then, Clark has represented clients before the Congress and Executive Branch with a focus on agriculture, food, finance, and trade matters.
