Richard Foster
Theologian
Richard Foster is a Christian theologian and author. He is founder of Renovaré (a Christian nonprofit established in1988 to help people in becoming more like Jesus) and served as its president until 2008; he continues to serve in an advisory role. Foster has been a professor at Friends University and pastor of Evangelical Friends churches. He earned his Doctor of Pastoral Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary and received an honorary doctorate from Houghton College. He is possibly best known for his 1978 book Celebration of Discipline, which sold over one million copies. It was named by Christianity Today as one of the top ten books of the 20^th century.

Howard Baker, Professor, joined the faculty of Denver Seminary after serving as an adjunct faculty member. Together with Dr. Bruce Demarest in 1999, he began the Seminary’s certificate program in evangelical spiritual guidance. Currently, Howard is the board chair for The Abbey Colorado and on the faculty of the Soul Care Institute. He earned a BA from Texas Christian University, a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary, a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from St. Thomas Seminary, and a D.Min. in Spiritual Direction from Fuller Seminary. Howard has published articles in Discipleship Journal and Kindred Spirit and books which include Soul Keeping and The One True Thing, a contributor to the Renovare Spiritual Formation Bible and to The Transformation of a Man's Heart.

Eric Liddell (1902 – 1945) was a British Olympic Gold Medalist runner, a Scottish rugby union international player and Christian missionary. He attended the University of Edinburgh. Liddell served as a missionary teacher in additional to competing as a runner in the summer Olympics. Over the years, thousands of people have been inspired not only by Eric’s athletic accomplishment, but also by his integrity, humble service, and faith in Jesus Christ. His story was depicted in the Oscar winning film Chariots of Fire.

Thomas à Kempis, Author, (1380 – 1471) was a German-Dutch monk writing to other monks in pre-Reformation times. He wrote The Imitation of Christ between 1420 and 1427 with the first hand-written manuscripts appearing around 1427. By 1779 there were at least 1,800 editions and translations. John Wesley translated a version in the 1700s.

Andrew Murray, Theologian, exercised great influence over South Africa’s Dutch Reformed Church and was a chief promoter of the call to missions there. He was educated at Aberdeen University, Scotland, and at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and was given an honorary doctorate by the universities of Aberdeen and Cape of Good Hope. From 1848-1906 he pastored an extensive territory and helped to found three key missionary organizations and two colleges. An effective international evangelist, Murray wrote 250 publications and is best known today for his devotional writings, including Abide in Christ, With Christ in the School of Prayer and Waiting on God. Murray’s two most important books are The Key to the Mission Problem and The State of the Church.

David Henderson, serves as senior pastor of Covenant Church, part of the EPC denomination. Before attending Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he received both his Masters of Divinity and his Doctor of Ministry degrees, David studied marketing and management at Miami University and then worked in Brand Management with Procter and Gamble. An atheist until his twenties, he became a follower of Christ during his senior year in college. David’s books include Tranquility: Cultivating a Quiet Soul in a Busy World and coauthored with Haddon Robinson Culture Shift: Communicating God's Truth to Our Changing World.

St. Bernard of Clairvaux, (c.1090 – 1153) was canonized January 18, 1174.  A Cistercian monk and mystic, founder and abbot of the Abbey of Clairvaux,  he was one of the most influential churchmen of his time.  Mediator and counselor for several civil and ecclesiastical councils and for theological debates during seven years of papal disunity,  he nevertheless found time to produce an extensive number of sermons on the Song of Solomon. His greatest literary endeavour,  Sermons on the Canticle of Canticles,  revealed his teaching,  often described as “sweet as honey,”  as in his later title doctor mellifluus.

G.D. Watson, Speaker, was born in Accomac County, Virginia. Watson attended the Biblical Institute at Concord, New Hampshire, studying Hebrew, Greek, and theology. He joined the Philadelphia Conference in 1868 and spent much of his life speaking on the holiness of God. Watson wrote numerous articles, pamphlets and devotionals which include Beauty For Ashes, How to Die to Selfishness, Alone With God and A Tender Heart.
