Thomas A. Tarrants

Thomas A. Tarrants is President Emeritus of the C.S. Lewis Institute. After serving twelve years as president and nine years as vice President, he retired from his position as Vice President for Ministry and Director, Washington Area Fellows Program, with CSLI in June 2019. He holds a Master's of Divinity Degree, as well as a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Christian Spirituality. Tom is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Church Alliance and a member of the Evangelical Theological Society. He spends his time writing, mentoring, consulting and traveling. His life story is told in Consumed by Hate, Redeemed by Love, published by Thomas Nelson Publishers.

Corey Latta is a writer, teacher, and public speaker. He holds MAs in Religion and English and earned his PhD in twentieth-century Literature from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is the author of several books including C.S. Lewis and the Art of Writing, Election and Unity in Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, Functioning Fantasies: Ideology, Theology, and Social Conception in the Fantasies of C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien, When the Eternal Can Be Met, and C.S. Lewis and the Art of Writing. Corey has written articles and given talks on subjects ranging from C. S. Lewis, the theology of creativity, the neurology of the imagination, and the power of story to heal life’s wounds.

Randy Newman (1956-2024) was the Senior Fellow for Apologetics and Evangelism at the C.S. Lewis Institute. He taught at several evangelical seminaries. After serving for over 30 years with Campus Crusade for Christ, he established Connection Points, a ministry to help Christians engage people’s hearts the way Jesus did. He has written seven books, Questioning Evangelism, Corner Conversations, Bringing the Gospel Home, Engaging with Jewish People, Unlikely Converts: Improbable Stories of Faith and What They Teach Us About Evangelism, Mere Evangelism. and his most recent, Questioning Faith: Indirect Journeys of Belief through Terrains of Doubt. Randy has also written numerous articles about evangelism and other ways our lives intertwine with God’s creation. He earned his MDiv and PhD in Intercultural Studies from Trinity International University. Randy went home to be with the Lord in May 2024.

David George Moore, Author, lives in Austin, Texas and ministers through Two Cities Ministries. He holds degrees from Arizona State University, Dallas Theological Seminary, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His authored several books including The Last Men’s Book You’ll Ever Need. Gerard Manley Hopkins, (1844 – 1889) was an English poet and a Jesuit priest. Educated at Oxford, he also taught classics, Greek literature, composed music, and produced fine drawings, most of themes of nature. He died of typhoid fever before any of his poems were published.

St. Bernard of Clairvaux, (c.1090 – 1153) was canonized January 18, 1174.  A Cistercian monk and mystic, founder and abbot of the Abbey of Clairvaux,  he was one of the most influential churchmen of his time.  Mediator and counselor for several civil and ecclesiastical councils and for theological debates during seven years of papal disunity,  he nevertheless found time to produce an extensive number of sermons on the Song of Solomon. His greatest literary endeavour,  Sermons on the Canticle of Canticles,  revealed his teaching,  often described as “sweet as honey,”  as in his later title doctor mellifluus.

Founded in 1976 by Dr. James Houston and James R. Aimee Riegert, CSLI Fellow, earned bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and foreign language studies from Southern Methodist University. In addition to supporting various national security efforts in Northern Virginia, she has worked as an itinerant high school math teacher and drama coach, and has served in women’s ministries, praise teams, on the adult support team for Young Life and as a “mentor mom” for MOPS International ministries, as well as English instructor in several ESL programs in Japan. She is a graduate of the C.S. Lewis Institute Year One Fellows Program.

Barry C. Black, Chaplain, is the 62nd Chaplain of the United States Senate. He was elected to this position on June 27, 2003, becoming the first African American to hold this office. Prior to coming to Capitol Hill, Chaplain Black served in the U.S. Navy for over twenty-seven years, ending his distinguished career as the Chief of Navy Chaplains. The Senate elected its first chaplain in 1789. Chaplain Black is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and an alumnus of Oakwood College, Andrews University, North Carolina Central University, Eastern Baptist Seminary, Salve Regina University, and United States International University.

John Koessler, is chair and professor of pastoral studies at Chicago’s Moody Bible Institute where he has been a faculty member since 1994. Prior to joining Moody, John served as pastor of Valley Chapel in Green Valley, IL for nine years. An award-winning author who has written thirteen books and numerous magazine articles, he is a frequent conference speaker and preacher.
