For 51 years Mae King has been married to her “hero,” Steve. During many of those years, her job description was titled “Joshua and Caleb,” her two now-grown sons.  Presently, she also treasures the title of “Granny” to her 16-year-old granddaughter, Elise.  Mae’s background includes a master’s degree in English literature/education, teaching history and English for decades on the high school and middle school levels, public speaking on art and history from a Christian perspective, and ministry in the churches she and Steve have served in.

Mae enjoys “grannying,” reading (so many books, not enough time!), and exploring God’s creation. One of her missions is creatively using her home as a gateway to encourage others along their way to God’s eternal kingdom. Two years ago, Mae and Steve both retired in the same week and moved to Waco, TX. They are thrilled to experience life together 24/7, and their delight is in doing ministry as a couple.

Steve King served as the Senior Pastor at Cherrydale Baptist Church in Arlington, VA from 1983 to 2019, and Senior Pastor Emeritus from 2019-2022. Steve has a passion to make disciples who love God and people above all else. He hosted Renewing Hope on WAVA 105.1 FM for 26 years, led the Band of Shepherds pastors’ fellowship for 30 years, served on the board of Pioneers International for 26 years, was on the leadership team of One Heart DC and is lecturer and writer for the C.S. Lewis Institute. He is the author of Beware the Slow Leaks – eight ways ministry leaders can thrive and finish strong (Salem Books). Steve holds degrees from the University of Georgia (BBA) and Western Seminary (MDiv).
