Patterns For Prayer
"Now I lay me down to sleep...God is great, God is good...our father who art in heaven...God bless mommy, Daddy, grandma and grandpa." many of us first learned to pray using such phrases. as we grew in prayer we needed form and structure. They were provided through helpful devices such as the ACTS acrostic: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving , Supplication. But after a while, even these valuable helps can grow a bit stale. so we tend to flit from one prayer method to the next as quickly as a bird moves from branch to branch. All of these efforts accurately point to the reality that we, like the disciples, are crying out "lord teach us how to pray."...

Howard Baker
ProfessorHoward Baker, Professor, joined the faculty of Denver Seminary after serving as an adjunct faculty member. Together with Dr. Bruce Demarest in 1999, he began the Seminary’s certificate program in evangelical spiritual guidance. Currently, Howard is the board chair for The Abbey Colorado and on the faculty of the Soul Care Institute. He earned a BA from Texas Christian University, a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary, a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from St. Thomas Seminary, and a D.Min. in Spiritual Direction from Fuller Seminary. Howard has published articles in Discipleship Journal and Kindred Spirit and books which include Soul Keeping and The One True Thing, a contributor to the Renovare Spiritual Formation Bible and to The Transformation of a Man's Heart.
